INTERCARE CHEQUE PRESENTATION

On Saturday Elaine and I went along to the Intercare AGM (at their in invitation).
It was very interesting to sit in and hear more of how the charity operates, and learn of the results they are achieving.
Just one of the stories, of which there are many:-

Inter Care get an SOS from Sierra Leone where there is a cholera outbreak in one of the hospitals, and they are in desperate need of the appropriate medication.

Carol organises the purchase (as they did  not have stock), and despatch of the medicine.
39 of the 40 patients survived.

This is just a small part of their work, and it just convinces me more, that the supply of quilts, and fund raising by our group has been a wonderful and worthwhile project.

They have now used all of our quilts, and have been very grateful for our help.

They were thrilled with our donation of £767.90 (we received a round of applause :-)

Towards the end of the AGM I was invited to speak about our group,  and  I had the opportunity of telling them about the fund raising carried out by the Cosby Quilters over the years.

At the end of the meeting several people came and spoke to us, and complimented us on the wonderful quilts and the efforts of our Group.

It has made all of the hard work worthwhile.

Get-togethers get better and better

Thirty Cosby Quilters met at Ashfields in Earl Shilton earlier this month for our 'post Christmas' celebrations.
This proved to be an excellent venue, the food was first class, with very friendly staff, who could just about hear the food orders, above the chatter.
I think this could become one of our favourites for the future, and why wait for Christmas to have a meal with lovely friends??
Thanks to our hard working Secretary Janet for organising this (and much more)

WHOOPS.....................
NEARLY MISSED THIS ONE...............

We had a great final meeting to 2012.
Jennie Almond came along and showed us a selection of her beautiful quilts, and she also told stories of her quilting adventures.

just one of the many quilts which Jenny brought along

We had the usual amazing faith supper - amazing that we have such a variety and quantity of food - and amazing that it doesn't all get eaten up there and then!

The raffle was our Big One, with extra prizes, and we raised a fair sum of money to go to Intercare.(more of that in a later blog)

We also had a draw for members.  A beautiful quilt was the prize, made by the late Janet Beet, and finished by committee members.  This was won by Alison Caputo, and she was clearly quite delighted.

We had a special guest for the evening, who came courtesy of Leicester City Council.
She wandered up (or maybe even flew) from Town Hall Square, to join our Christmas Party.  She looked a bit battered, but recovered sufficiently after a few glasses of Bucks Fizz, and regaled us with a brief poem, along the lines of how she got too fat to go on a normal sized Christmas tree.  Hence the only tree she could top, was the one in the centre of Leicester....

We have tried to send her a thank you message, but could not contact her.  We understand she was last seen heading north in search Rosemary Conley, to get advice on how to become a sleeker fairy  for next Christmas.

A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Well, here we are half way through January, with a very busy year ahead of us.
I hope lots of you managed to see the Inside Out programme.
As we hoped, not only did we see some of our quilts, but Carol from Intercare  also mentioned Cosby Quilters.........it was so exciting!

It was so good to see that our efforts have been appreciated by the recipients, but a little sad that there are not always quite enough to go around. On that note, we will still be happy to receive quilts for Intercare, but you have all been so very generous, I feel I cannot ask for more.  (well, not immediately!!)

Although we don't have a meeting in January there has been lots going on.
Pat has finalised the 2013 workshops, (and some for 2014), and as you will see, she has come  up with some super courses.   Book early to save disappointment.

As you probably know, our first meeting of the new year is on Wednesday 6 February at the usual time, and this will be also be our AGM.

Thankfully, all committee members are happy to continue with their excellent work , (big sigh of relief!) and we also have some nominations for new committee members, so that is all very positive.

Our guest speaker is Jennie Dobson who will talk about 'Foreign Fabrics and Friends'.

We look forward to seeing you all, and hope by that time, the snow will have stopped!!

I hope to get the 2013  programme on to the blog very soon.  Keep watching......
